CUBA – Carrying the Revolution

betOn 31 of July of 2006, the Commander in Chief of Cuba, Fidel Castro, has moved away from the power to take care of serious problems of health. Nineteen months later, in 19 of February, he announced his resignation for the command of the country. He was almost 50 years in the power. Fidel assumed a world-leader position with a socialism politic and revolutionaries ideias. The exercise now is in the brother’s hands, Raúl Castro, that will try to manage a country that follows with great difficulties, since the end of Russian’s support and the american economic’s imposition with the embargo. The pressure of a globalized business-world and a youth that grows in the imposition of the consumption appeal, contrasts ahead with members of the society who lived the revolutionary period – in the same way the following generation -. The country presents high levels of education; services of health and pharmaceutical production. But, the country faces internal dilemmas where the young people has the possibility to live an economic opening and a bigger social-political participation in the society. How the island will present his “new” way for a democratization without leaving backwards the achievements of the revolution? These images were photographed in November of 2004, portraying a people of a singular history.
